Redemption comes in strange places, small spaces, calling out the best of who we are. It comes in small inspirations. It comes in loving community. It comes in helping a soul find its worth. I want to add to the beauty, to tell a better story. I want to shine with the light that's burning up inside. This is grace, an invitation to be beautiful.
You can't understand light unless you understand darkness, because that's where life is most often lived - somewhere between the two. It's messy and it's beautiful all at the same time.
What we must do is to stop regarding unpleasant or unexpected things as interruptions of real life. The truth is that interruptions are real life, the real life that God sends us day by day. What we call our real life is but a phantom of our imagination.

Promises are meant to be KEPT

Posted on 2/25/2010 at 6:25:11 AM

Today is the White House Health Care Summit in Washington, DC. Sign this to remind President Obama and the conferees of his promise not to use federal funds for abortions and to keep federal conscience laws in place!

…it is only ever divine.

We sang “Before the Throne of God Above” in church on Sunday and even though I’ve sung that hymn numerous times before, it was especially powerful to me this time. If you haven’t heard it, you must. (After I ramble for a bit, you can read the lyrics and visit youtube.) The words remind me [...]

perfection is not human…

Posted on 2/23/2010 at 4:47:58 AM

I am not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, and I definitely know this about myself. And, really, though I would consider myself a perfectionist in too many bad ways (and some good ways), I know that not only is it impossible for me to become perfect on this earth but I don’t actually [...]

On the 23rd annual celebration of Mirielentine’s Day!

Today is the 23rd birthday of one of my dearest friends, Miss Miriel Margaret Thomas. She came into my life one-and-a-half years ago when we met at a conference in Quebec City. We actually date the start of our friendship back to my 21st birthday – August 2, 2008 – when we had a heart-to-heart [...]

Today is day 6 of the “Historic” Washington Blizzard and, as I’m typing this, we’re actually experiencing Blizzard #2! Here’s a rundown on the sometimes-exciting-often-not events of the past few days… DAY 2…Jules came back around 5pm with stories of the humongous snow piles that had accumulated outside our door. So we ran outside to [...]

Confessions: Super Bowl Sunday edition

Posted on 2/8/2010 at 6:07:32 PM

Yes. The terrible rumors are true…I’ve never actually…watchedtheSuperBowlbefore. There, I said it. I mean, I suppose I may have glanced at it a few times while my dad or friends were watching it in past years, or at least passed through the room while it was on, but I don’t really remember. (Some of you [...]

the two best music videos I’ve seen recently

Posted on 2/6/2010 at 2:28:28 PM

1. Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” (SO good) meets Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”. You have to listen to it to believe it. Adorable. 2. There’s nothing I can say about this to prepare you for it. I’m serious. Just watch it.

Confessions of a Popcorn Addict

Posted on 2/6/2010 at 2:02:49 PM

I love popcorn. I can’t get over it. I just. love. it. If you spend enough time with me, you’ll quickly learn this quirky fact. I used to make popcorn in the microwave because I was lazy (I’ll admit it) and because I preferred the 98% fat-free version. But then, over the summer, Miriel introduced [...]

snowed in!

Washington is covered in over 2 feet of snow right now – and it’s still snowing! Some say we will have (or already have in some areas) over 30 inches by the time it dies down late tonight (maybe not until midnight)! Apparently it’s an “historic” snowstorm: “the biggest DC snow since 1922!” Laugh all [...]
