Redemption comes in strange places, small spaces, calling out the best of who we are. It comes in small inspirations. It comes in loving community. It comes in helping a soul find its worth. I want to add to the beauty, to tell a better story. I want to shine with the light that's burning up inside. This is grace, an invitation to be beautiful.
You can't understand light unless you understand darkness, because that's where life is most often lived - somewhere between the two. It's messy and it's beautiful all at the same time.
What we must do is to stop regarding unpleasant or unexpected things as interruptions of real life. The truth is that interruptions are real life, the real life that God sends us day by day. What we call our real life is but a phantom of our imagination.

One. Monday evening, Mom and I spent a few hours stuffing envelopes for the congressional campaign of Isaac Hayes, the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois’ 2nd District. Hayes is a Christian and a conservative, outspoken in his respect for human life and for the U.S. Constitution, born and raised on [...]

Today was a very looooong day at the pool, evidenced by the fact that it is technically Saturday morning and I’m just now getting a chance to publish this post… One. Last weekend, Mosaic came to Parkview (my family’s church) to give a free concert on Saturday night and lead the worship services on …

One. I have recently fallen in love with two new (to me) musicians, both of whom I highly recommend to you: Andrew Belle and Joshua Radin. Caroline first introduced me to Andrew Belle by giving me a copy of his new single. I loved it immediately and his thoughtful lyrics even inspired a blog post [...]

Today I was reminded that even on a rainy, gloomy, 100% overcast day in June, when the pool can’t open so I can’t work, only the latest in a succession of rainy, gloomy, money-losing days, following on the heels of a handful of other disappointments–even on a day like that, like today, when everything seems [...]

When I woke up this morning, I turned on one of my favorite Sunday morning Pandora stations to listen to as I was getting ready for church. “Hosanna” by Selah came on almost immediately. Even though I’ve heard and sung the song more than once, the lyrics really jumped out at me this time, and [...]

Confession: Sometimes I can’t help shaking under my skin.

Posted on 5/20/2010 at 8:11:40 PM

You may not be able to tell. I’m pretty good at hiding it actually. But sometimes it’s true… I read verse after verse of Scripture telling me not to be afraid and to trust in the Lord rather than my own abilities. I identify “the worst that could possibly happen” just to remind myself that [...]

My long-anticipated evening finally came and went and I’m still reeling from the impact. Last night, Anne and I went with a few others to The Falls Church in Falls Church, VA to see Sara Groves perform in concert as part of the ArtMusicJustice tour with Charlie Peacock and Jars of Clay. Unfortunately, JOC didn’t [...]

You make everything glorious

Posted on 3/8/2010 at 5:45:48 PM

I’ve had this song stuck in my head for over 36 hours! The days have just been so glorious lately and sometimes it’s easy for me to forget why they’re so glorious: because He made them that way! And somehow just remembering that truth makes everything even more glorious. “Everything Glorious” by David Crowder The [...]
